In the headlines: The new hostage of the European framework agreement: the health industry
The agreement between Switzerland and the European Community on mutual recognition in relation to conformity assessment (MRA) needs to be updated. It is an instrument designed to remove technical barriers to the trade of industrial goods between Switzerland and the European Union.
If an agreement is not reached between Bern and Brussels, automatic recognition of medical devices will no longer be guaranteed. Supply problems could arise in the field of emergency care, trauma, and diabetes, as well as for dialysis and chronic respiratory assistance products. Medtech players are mobilizing to warn of the risks of equipment shortages.
